SCV Code Boat Master Grade II (2)

 

Objective
Those who have successfully completed the training are able to Maneuver effectively, respond to emergencies and have acquired knowledge regarding collision prevention provisions, seamanship, passenger safety, legal responsibilities to passengers and crew, meteorology, technical aspects and prevention of marine pollution.

 

Target audience
This course is intended for captains of open boats <24m in protected waters, open boats (without passengers) <24m in coastal waters & <12m (with passengers) in coastal waters.

Coastal waters means an area designated as such by the competent authority in respect of the territorial sea and contiguous zone, but in no case extending more than 20 nautical miles from a port or place of refuge. If not so designated, it means an area not more than 20 nautical miles from a port or safe haven.

 

Conditions for participation:

·       20 years and older

·       Have completed approved sailing time of at least two months

·       a valid medical certificate

·       good health and physically able to participate in hands-on exercises

·       Possess Boat Master grade 3 / Boat Master grade III.

·       Certificates required

o   Basic Sea Survival – e.g. IMO Model Course 1.19

o   Elementary First Aid – e.g. IMO Model Course 1.13

o   Basic Firefighting Course – e.g. IMO Model Course 1.20

o   Personal Safety and Social Responsibility – e.g. IMO Model Course 1.21

Accreditation
The course is accredited by Maritime Authority of Jamaica

Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive the certificate:

·       “Boatmaster Grade II in accordance with the Small Craft Safety Code (CSV Code), Chapter X and Annex 11.”

 

Validity
Five years
